The University of Mississippi announced students named to the Fall 2021Honor Roll lists, including Dean's Honor Roll.

Mississippi College's Jazz Band roster for 2021-2022 has been announced. The Jazz Band is directed by Wayne Linehan. They will be holding a concert on February 22, 2022 at 7:30 PM in Williams Recital Hall, Aven Fine Arts Building, Mississippi College, Clinton, MS.

Camryn Johnson is using her creative talents to produce "Celebrating the Black Legacy," a theatrical production to recognize Black History Month at Mississippi College. The epic heroes and defining moments of the African American experience in the U.S. will spring vividly to life during "Celebrating the Black Legacy," scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, in Swor Auditorium in Nelson Hall.

More than 600 students graduated from the University of Mississippi in December 2021. Undergraduate and graduate candidates received degrees from the College of Liberal Arts, General Studies and schools of Law, Pharmacy, Journalism and New Media, Engineering, Education, Business Administration, Applied Sciences and Patterson School of Accountancy.

Dakota Murphree dreams of one day becoming a minister, serving as a Baptist Student Union director, and owning an actual ranch that could be used as a retreat center for local churches. Hannah Quigley, president of the BSU at Mississippi College, aims to serve the Lord in whatever ministry He leads her to in the future. Murphree, a senior business administration major, and Quigley, a senior Christian Studies major, credit Mississippi College for helping set them on the path to achieving their long-term ministerial goals. They each shared their testimonies with high-ranking leaders of the Mississippi Baptist Convention and presidents and administrators of Blue Mountain College, MC, and William Carey University during the Education Commission meeting Jan. 14. Originally scheduled for the Clinton campus, the event took place virtually in deference to the rise in Omicron variant COVID-19 cases throughout the state. The Commission cultivates the interest of Mississippi Baptists on behalf of Christian higher education, strengthens the colleges of Mississippi Baptists and unifies their efforts in the Convention program of Christian higher education, and makes recommendations through the Convention Board to the Convention concerning all cooperative efforts in the field of Christian higher education, among other responsibilities. The pair of MC students is actually a couple: Murphree and Quigley have been dating for several months, and the prospect of a future professing the Lord's saving grace together strengthens their hopes - and their commitment to each other. "I'm so thankful the Lord has been able to use our very new relationship," said Murphree, who serves as vice president of the BSU. "Someone told me one time, whoever you decide to marry, you need to be able to do ministry better with them than do ministry without them. "Being able to know the Lord is able to use us and our relationship for His glory in a bigger way is something I thank Him for often." Murphree told the commission he was in his last semester studying business at Hinds Community College when he felt called to go into the ministry. A meeting at church on his last Sunday at Hinds helped lead him to Mississippi College. "I met Wes Wroten, the college pastor at First Baptist Church Clinton, and made friends with him and other MC students," Murphree said. "I went to MC's BSU, I did a lot of praying, I talked to a lot of people, and I decided to go into Christian Studies at MC." That decision came with a formidable obstacle for Murphree: how to afford his continuing education. "I didn't know how I was going to pay for it," he said. "I prayed, 'Lord, I felt like You called me to come here, but I don't exactly know how.' But the Lord provided for me to be here." Through scholarships and other financial assistance opportunities, Murphree was able to attend MC. He now serves as an intern for Wroten at First Baptist Church. "What the Lord has been able to do through my life is incredible," Murphree said. "I'm blessed with a Christian community and good friends who are important to me spiritually. "I've been able to speak with pastors about my call to the ministry. This University has propped me up and prepared me to be not only an efficient addition to the workforce, but also a disciple." He said his interest in ranching stems from his background. Hailing from the rural town of Vardaman, Murphree served as president of the Mississippi student chapter of Future Farmers of America while he was in high school. "I've always loved engaging with God's creation in a lot of ways," he said. "Wanting a ranch, I have the desire to provide for others, my community, and my family, and also to possibly use it for ministry. It sounds so exciting. "MC is a great institution. The professors are very knowledgeable in their field, but also, the community and the institution are built on a foundation of following the will of God. You see that when you go to class devotionals, when you go to events on campus, in what your friends talk about. It definitely prepares you for going out and doing ministry." He concluded his presentation by quoting Philippians 1: 20-21: "I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." (NIV) A native of Meridian, Quigley told the commission she surrendered her life to the Lord at 12 when she recognized that she was living in a broken world. "I had some bitterness towards my home life," Quigley said, "but after meeting the Lord, He turned that bitterness into peace and joy, and I have been so blessed to live with Him ever since." Referencing the Great Commission, she said one of the biggest testaments to the Lord's faithfulness in her life occurred during her freshman year at MC. "I had never been discipled before," she said, "but an upperclassman decided to pour into me and other freshmen girls and teach us how to make disciples of all nations as we are called to in Matthew 28." A biology pre-med major at the time, Quigley said she felt the Lord calling her to give her life to ministry. "I was terrified of this, because I did not think I was equipped for such a task," she admitted. "But I eventually decided to step out in faith and trust that the Lord would provide and guide me through. He sure did!" She switched her major to Christian Studies and never looked back. Currently a student intern at Wynndale Baptist Church, she is an avid participant in summer mission trips and Christian youth camps. "The (Christian Studies) professors have been nothing short of phenomenal," she said. "They've taught me so much about ministry and the Scriptures and have given me life advice about working in churches. "The BSU on campus has also played a huge role in my spiritual growth. They welcomed me in my freshman year and challenged me to seek the Lord during my time at college. I have the awesome privilege of serving as their president this year, and it has been amazing to see how God has used our ministry to further His kingdom." She said Mississippi College has equipped her with all the tools she needs to be successful in spreading the good news about Christ. "Not only has MC prepared me for ministry now, but I believe wholeheartedly that the time I have spent here at MC has definitely prepared me for whatever ministry I find myself in the future," she said.

Southern New Hampshire University congratulates the following students on being named to the Honor Roll for the following terms: 21EW2, 21TW1, and 21FADAY. Honor Roll is a term-specific achievement that recognizes learners who excel at SNHU. It was established in 2022 to help recognize learners who do not qualify for President's List or Dean's List. Due to differences in term structures, SNHU's online and campus populations will have different eligibility requirements for Honor Roll. Eligibility for SNHU Honor Roll requires that a student earn an academic grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher for the term, and meet the following criteria. Campus Students: Part-time, coursework-only, and graduate students studying on campus are eligible for the Honor Roll. Full-time campus students (12+ credits) are not eligible for the Honor Roll, but may be eligible for President's or Dean's List. Online Learners: Due to differences in term structures, full- and part-time undergraduate and all graduate online students and coursework-only learners are eligible for the Honor Roll. Please note: Full-time online undergraduate students who receive the Honor Roll may also be eligible for President's List or Dean's List. SNHU's President's and Dean's Lists require online students to accumulate 12 credits in either EW1 & EW2, EW3 & EW4, or EW5 & EW6 and earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Honor Roll is evaluated at the end of every term while Dean's List and President's List is evaluated at the end of each set of paired terms for online students. While acknowledgement of Honor Roll is an achievement, it is not a recognized university honor and has no bearing on eligibility for honor societies, Latin honors or Ceremonial honors at the time of conferral or during the Commencement Ceremony, or any notation on the student's academic transcript or diploma. Mississippi College honored the graduates of both summer and fall semesters in three campus ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 17. Dr. Blake Thompson, MC president, welcomed the graduates and gave opening remarks, while Dr. Tommy Leavelle, retired professor in the Department of Mathematics at MC and the 2020-21 Distinguished Professor of the Year, gave the Commencement Address. Thompson reiterated MC's theme, "Rise Up," for the 2021-22 Academic Year, inviting the MC Family to make this a year built on the "good work" God calls us all to do. The encouragement taken from Nehemiah 2:18 illustrates that, although situations can change at a moment's notice, God will strengthen our hands.

Hinds Community College graduated more than 800 students in one of three graduation ceremonies at the Muse Center on the Rankin Campus on Dec. 5, 2021. Hinds awarded 1,150 certificates and degrees, with some students receiving more than one credential. Of those graduating,148 were cum laude with a grade point average of 3.2 to 3.59; 94 were graduating magna cum laude with a grade point average of 3.6 to 3.99 and 117 were graduating summa cum laude with a grade point average of 4.0. President's Scholars are those with a cumulative 4.0 grade point average.

Hinds Community College has announced the Deans' Scholars for the Fall 2021 semester. Deans' Scholars are those students with a cumulative 3.5 to 3.9 grade point average.

Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, welcomed 1,128 new initiates from 41 universities during November 2021. Students initiated into the Society must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class, demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five pillars, and embrace the ODK ideals. Fewer than five percent of students on a campus are invited to join each year.

Emporia State University congratulates nearly 250 students who received their academic degrees after completing the summer 2021 semester.

Despite the lingering COVID-19 pandemic that has had a negative impact on scholarly activities, institutions of higher learning across the country are riding a new wave of increasing enrollment as incoming and transferring college students appear eager to continue their academic journeys. That's especially true at Mississippi College. However, the University's improving enrollment numbers aren't just attributable to a declining worldwide pandemic, according to Hannah Richards, director of enrollment marketing and communications at MC. "We see across the board that our students are not just attracted to the price point we ask or to the location we're in, but to the unconditional warmth and community they find on our campus," Richards said, "in conjunction with professors at the top of their fields who also make themselves available to students in a myriad of ways, on campus and off, in churches and in small groups. "Students get to experience all of this when they come to MC for a visit, and I think it's incredibly attractive." The "personal touch" of new student recruitment at MC extends all the way to the top. Last year, Dr. Blake Thompson, Mississippi College president, wrote more than 500 personal notes to students who attended one of the many regional recruitment events hosted by the University. "Our new student numbers are up, year over year," she said. "A lot of that is due to our regional strategy. Our regional recruiters have proven to be an effective piece of the recruitment model, connecting with even more students on their home turf." Between January and April, MC's Office of Admissions hosted about 800 prospective students in 18 recruiting events across the Southeast. Richards said the recruiters concentrated on four areas in particular: Birmingham, Memphis, the northern shore of Louisiana and the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. The recruiters invited small groups of interested students to dinner at local restaurants or coffee shops to meet with MC faculty members, students and admissions counselors and learn about life at the Christian University. Along with hosting academic Select Scholars Competition and Transfer Scholar Competition - events that attract 120 to 150 students vying for valuable scholarships - and receptions of up to 150 prospective students, the less-formal, individualized meetings are a hit with incoming freshmen and transfer students alike.

The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

The Mississippi College Marching Band made its 2021 debut Sept. 2 on campus with performances at MC's football home opener against Albany State. The band is under the direction of Duncan Goff.

The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy presented its 2021-2022 first-year students their traditional white coats in a cermony hosted in Oxford. The white coat is a symbol of professionalism, and this ceremony marks the beginning of their professional journey toward becoming a pharmacist.

Nearly 500 students were awarded degrees as part of Jacksonville State University's Summer 2021 commencement on August 6.

A total 593 Hinds Community College students graduated in one of three ceremonies on July 30 with 320 students choosing to participate in one of the ceremonies. Hinds awarded a total of 700 credentials, with some students earning more than one credential.
