Hinds Community College names fall 2013 graduates

Hinds Community College graduated nearly 800 on Dec. 19 and 20 in a series of four ceremonies on the Raymond Campus, record numbers for a December ceremony. Twenty-eight graduates had perfect 4.0 grade point averages for summa cum laude, 63 had 3.60 to 3.99 grade point averages, magna cum laude and 160 had 3.20 to 3.59 grade point averages, cum laude.

Who's Who named at Hinds Community College

In order to be nominated for Who's Who, a student must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be enrolled as a full-time student. He or she must be a sophomore having completed at least 27 semester hours and be in good standing with the college. He or she must also be active in clubs or organizations, serve in leadership roles or be active in community activities.

Hinds Community College 2013 Summer Graduation

Hinds Community College graduated more than 300 students in two summer 2013 graduation ceremonies that took place on the Raymond Campus on Aug. 2. Of those, 257 participated in the ceremonies, and the college granted 91 associate in arts (AA) degrees, 79 associate in applied science (AAS) degrees, 48 career certificates (CC) and 39 technical certificates (TC).

Hinds CC Hi-Steppers

For more than 60 years the Hinds Hi-Steppers have upheld a history of excellence serving as one of the oldest precision dance lines in the nation. They have performed for audiences across the United States, Canada and Europe. No group in the U.S. has received more invitations to nationally televised bowl games, professional football games, or national parades than the Hi-Steppers. The Hi-Steppers are still a favorite today as they perform at football games, exhibitions, parades, and community events.

National Consortium for Academics and Sports

The NCAS has annually celebrated April 6 as National Student-Athlete Day since 1987, and 2013 marked the 26th celebration of the event. National Student-Athlete Day celebrates the outstanding achievements of high school and college student-athletes who have excelled in academics (3.0 GPA or above) and athletics while having made significant contributions to their schools and communities.

Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for community and junior college students. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is extended to students who have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or above on 12 or more transferrable credit hours. There are more than 1,200 Phi Theta Kappa chapters throughout the United States and abroad.
