Hinds Community College has announced the Deans' Scholars for the Fall 2015 semester. Deans' Scholars are those students with a cumulative 3.5 to 3.9 grade point average.

Samford University releases dean's lists after the close of the fall and spring semesters each academic year. To qualify for the dean's list, a student must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 while attempting at least 12 credit hours of coursework. Dean's List is the highest academic recognition given by the school at the end of each semester.

Hinds Community College recently honored students named "Who's Who Among Students in American Community and Junior Colleges." To receive this honor, students are nominated by faculty or staff based upon their academic excellence, leadership, citizenship and service to the college and/or the community as well as participation in extracurricular activities.

Hinds Community College graduated more than 800 students in one of three ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 18 at the Muse Center on Hinds' Rankin Campus. Hinds conferred more than 1,300 credentials, including one-year career certificates or two-year technical certificates for career-technical programs or associate degrees. Some students received more than one credential. Graduating summa cum laude, with 4.0 grade point averages, are 156 students. Ninety-two graduate magna cum laude with GPAs of 3.6 to 3.99, and 135 graduate cum laude with GPAs of 3.2 to 3.59.

Hinds Community College graduated 304 in two summer ceremonies on July 30 at the Muse Center on the Rankin Campus. Of the total number of graduates, 23 graduated summa cum laude, which is a perfect 4.0 grade point average; 42 graduated magna cum laude, which is a 3.60 to 3.99 grade point average and 73 graduated cum laude, which is a 3.20 to 3.59 grade point average. The graduates earned 443 credentials including career and technical certificates as well as associate degrees. Some students earned multiple credentials. Hinds Community College graduated more than 800 students on Dec. 18 and 19 at five fall ceremonies at Hinds Community College’s Raymond Campus. The graduates earned a total 1,260 credentials including career and technical certificates as well as associate degrees, an increase over last December when 734 students earned 808 credentials.

Hinds Community College graduated more than 390 students in three summer 2014 graduation ceremonies that took place on the Raymond Campus on Aug. 1.

Hinds Community College graduated 2,257 on May 15, 16 and 18 in a series of ceremonies on the Raymond and Utica campuses. More than 400 students received multiple credentials. Of those, 250 achieved summa cum laude, a 4.0 grade point average; 146, magna cum laude, 3.6 to 3.99 GPA; and 50, cum laude, 3.2 to 3.59 GPA.

The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

To qualify for the President's List, the student must be enrolled full-time and have a perfect 4.0 quality point average.

Hinds Community College band members and faculty will travel to France May 14-21 to participate in a concert series that is a part of the 70th Anniversary "Commemorations of D-Day: The Battle of Normandy and the Liberation of France."

The Hinds Community College Hinds Wind Ensemble will perform at the Pepsi Pops Concert on May 9 as the opening performance for the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.

Hinds Community College graduated nearly 800 on Dec. 19 and 20 in a series of four ceremonies on the Raymond Campus, record numbers for a December ceremony. Twenty-eight graduates had perfect 4.0 grade point averages for summa cum laude, 63 had 3.60 to 3.99 grade point averages, magna cum laude and 160 had 3.20 to 3.59 grade point averages, cum laude.

In order to be nominated for Who's Who, a student must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be enrolled as a full-time student. He or she must be a sophomore having completed at least 27 semester hours and be in good standing with the college. He or she must also be active in clubs or organizations, serve in leadership roles or be active in community activities.

Hinds Community College graduated more than 300 students in two summer 2013 graduation ceremonies that took place on the Raymond Campus on Aug. 2. Of those, 257 participated in the ceremonies, and the college granted 91 associate in arts (AA) degrees, 79 associate in applied science (AAS) degrees, 48 career certificates (CC) and 39 technical certificates (TC).
