Hinds Community College graduated 611 students during the summer semester at its six locations. Among 319 participating in two ceremonies July 27 at the Muse Center on the Rankin Campus was Tierra Williams, of Jackson, who earned an Associate in Arts degree from the college. In all, 391 credentials were conferred to the 611 who graduated from the college. Of the total graduating, 197 did so with honors. That includes 85 who earned the cum laude designation, which is a 3.2 to 3.59 grade point average. Another 47 graduated magna cum laude, or a 3.6 to 3.99 grade point average, and 65 graduated summa cum laude, or a 4.0 grade point average. The total field of honor graduates equaled about one-third of the summer graduating class. Peggy Hobson Calhoun, who represents District 3 on the Hinds County Board of Supervisors, spoke to graduates at both ceremonies. Calhoun implored graduates not to give up when adversity strikes when they enter the workforce. "You may think your vision of becoming successful is too difficult to realize, but it can become real," Calhoun said. "I don't know what your aspirations and pursuits are, but don't blind your vision. Hold on to your visions and your dreams. Your vision defines what it is you want to accomplish out of life." Troy University is proud to announce students who completed the requirements for graduation during the spring 2018 semester at the Troy Campus.

Hinds Community College had five graduation ceremonies spanning May 10, 11 and 13. Over the five ceremonies, Hinds awarded 1,839 degrees and certificates to 1,319 people, with some people receiving multiple credentials in academic, career or technical programs. This is the largest number of credentials Hinds has ever awarded for one graduation season. Over the academic year including summer 2017 and fall 2017 ceremonies, the college will have awarded more than 3,900 credentials, a 12 percent increase over last year and an 85 percent increase over five years ago. Of the 1,319 spring graduates, 265 achieved cum laude, 3.2 to 3.59 grade point average; 204 achieved magna cum laude, 3.6 to 3.99 GPA and 137 achieved summa cum laude, 4.0 grade point average. Hinds Community College President Dr. Clyde Muse reminded graduates that they are part of a long tradition that began when the college was founded in 1917 as an agricultural high school. Hinds Community College graduated more than 1,000 students in three ceremonies Dec. 15 at the Muse Center on the Rankin Campus. Among the graduates, 129 achieved summa cum laude, a 4.0 grade point average; 74 achieved magna cum laude, a 3.6 to 3.99 GPA and 21 achieved cum laude, 3.2 to 3.59.

More than 400 students received diplomas at Harding University's commencement exercises on Dec. 16, 2017. Graduates include students from the College of Allied Health, College of Arts and Humanities, College of Bible and Ministry, Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration, Cannon-Clary College of Education, Carr College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Sciences, and the Honors College.

Nearly 600 students were awarded degrees at Jacksonville State University's winter commencement on Dec. 15.

Hinds Community College graduated nearly 1,200 over the three days of ceremonies on May 12, 13 and 15, with more than 800 participating in one of the ceremonies. Those graduates received more than 1,500 certificates and degrees since some graduates will receive more than one credential. Of the total number of graduates, 127 graduated summa cum laude, which is a perfect 4.0 grade point average; 130 graduated magna cum laude, which is a 3.60 to 3.99 grade point average and 238 graduated cum laude, which is a 3.20 to 3.59 grade point average. Three of the ceremonies were held at the Clyde Muse Center on the Rankin Campus. One ceremony was held on the Utica Campus.

Hinds Community College graduated more than 800 students in one of three ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 18 at the Muse Center on Hinds' Rankin Campus. Hinds conferred more than 1,300 credentials, including one-year career certificates or two-year technical certificates for career-technical programs or associate degrees. Some students received more than one credential. Graduating summa cum laude, with 4.0 grade point averages, are 156 students. Ninety-two graduate magna cum laude with GPAs of 3.6 to 3.99, and 135 graduate cum laude with GPAs of 3.2 to 3.59.

Hinds Community College graduated more than 800 students on Dec. 18 and 19 at five fall ceremonies at Hinds Community College’s Raymond Campus. The graduates earned a total 1,260 credentials including career and technical certificates as well as associate degrees, an increase over last December when 734 students earned 808 credentials.

Twenty-eight graduates had perfect 4.0 grade point averages for summa cum laude, 63 had 3.60 to 3.99 grade point averages, magna cum laude and 160 had 3.20 to 3.59 grade point averages, cum laude.
