Two Hinds CC students arrested on auto burglary charges, firearms discovered

Campuses safe, Hinds President says, college has a zero-tolerance weapons policy

by Karin Meadows

Raymond, MS (02/07/2026) — Raymond Police recovered firearms and other stolen property on Friday while executing search and arrest warrants in Hinds Community College residence hall rooms. Police believe the weapons and other property were stolen during multiple auto burglaries in Hinds County and the City of Raymond.

Two Hinds students were arrested and charged in connection with the auto burglaries.

Hinds CC Chief of Police Jeff Johns said college police assisted Raymond police with the investigation and the Friday afternoon search of student rooms. Johns said Raymond Police initiated the investigation following area break-ins off campus.

Hinds President Dr. Stephen Vacik said the college takes the safety and security of students, employees and visitors very seriously. The college has a zero-tolerance policy on weapons. Dr. Vacik reassured students, parents, employees and the public the college's campuses are safe.

"We are pleased Raymond police were able to identify the suspects and charge them appropriately. Weapons will not be tolerated on any of our campuses. Those discovered with firearms or other weapons face dismissal and arrest," Dr. Vacik said. "We will continue to be vigilant in ensuring our campus is weapon-free and safe."

Johns said the arrested students have been tied to multiple automobile break-ins in Raymond and Hinds County near campus. Those arrested are being held at the Hinds County Detention Facility. He indicated that this is believed to be an isolated incident at the college, which has historically low crime statistics on each campus.
