Background

The Grand Opening of the Health Sciences Complex is a celebration of the completion of the college's new flagship facility for nursing and allied health education.

The $64 million facility spans 160,000 square feet across four stories and brings Hinds' Nursing and Allied Health programs together under one roof. The building features modern classrooms, specialized laboratories, high-fidelity simulation labs and mock hospital rooms designed to prepare students for careers in healthcare.

Thursday's dedication celebrates a vision that has been years in the making. Construction milestones include a June 2025 topping-out ceremony, during which Hinds employees and members of the Flagstar Construction team signed the building's final steel beam before it was installed at the structure's highest point. Their signatures became a permanent part of the facility and symbolize the collective effort behind the project.

The complex opened to students in August, providing expanded educational opportunities and advanced training environments for future nurses and allied health professionals. The facility was designed to support hands-on learning through simulation-based instruction and collaborative healthcare education.

The facility is expected to serve generations of students while helping address the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals throughout the state and region.

With five campuses in central Mississippi, Hinds Community College is a comprehensive institution offering quality, affordable educational opportunities with academic programs of study leading to seamless university transfer and career and technical programs teaching job-ready skills.
