Hinds CC student named national Chime Scholar
Raymond, MS (09/01/2026) — Charles Phillips, a Hinds Community College-Rankin Campus mechatronics student, has been named a 2026 Chime Scholar. Phillips, of Brandon, joins a select group of 200 students nationwide recognized for academic achievement and dedication to career-focused technical education.
Funded by the Chime Scholars Foundation and administered by the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, the scholarship supports students pursuing career and technical education (CTE) at two-year colleges. As part of the national award, Phillips will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help cover educational expenses as he completes credentials necessary to enter high-demand advanced manufacturing and technology fields.
Chime scholarships aim to eliminate financial barriers for students pursuing credentials in high-demand, high-skill trades. Hinds Community College's Mechatronics program integrates mechanical systems, electronics, industrial controls and automated robotics, equipping students with essential skills needed in the contemporary, advanced automated manufacturing industry.
