Hinds CC and Jackson State partner to provide Air Force ROTC program

by Karin Meadows

Raymond, MS (07/21/2026) — A partnership between Hinds Community College and Jackson State University (JSU) provides Hinds students with a path to earn a degree and a potential career in the U.S. Air Force or Space Force.

By enrolling in JSU's Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC), Hinds students can attend college while receiving the military training necessary to commission as officers - and step into a leadership role with management responsibilities immediately upon graduating from college.

While at Hinds, students attend the two-year-long General Military Course (GMC) on JSU's campus. GMC consists of credit-hour courses focused on Air Force history and foundational military knowledge. All cadets also attend a weekly Leadership Laboratory, where they develop practical skills through activities like group leadership projects and drill and ceremonies. Additionally, cadets participate in physical training sessions twice a week to maintain fitness and build resilience. To learn more, go to https://www.hindscc.edu/afrotc.

A variety of scholarships are available for participating students. For information on scholarships go to https://www.afrotc.com.
